WELCOME TO the FOODSHEDco-op
orchards without borders
We are a Social Enterprise sponsored by Brighton & Hove Food Partnership with a passion for local food and people.
We handmade a shop out of found materials, even down to the paint which was saved from a skip!
Our ethics are simple, reduce waste and support people and the planet and that's the premise behind all our plans.
Foodshed is based at the Open Market, in the heart of the London Road Brighton U.K we direct buy Organic food from local farmers and growers as well as working with local community groups, schools, charities, producers, farms, makers, bakers and growers. We feel it is important to tell their stories and showcase the the vast range of incredible products that come from right on our doorstep so that our customers can make informed choices when it comes to buying food.
Why buy food from 100’s of miles away when Sussex has everything you need right here!?
We also offer an innovative rent a shelf scheme to local micro producers to help them get their product to market, grow their businesses, work with eachother or simply flirt with ideas and have a place to develop and sell stuff!
Foodshed is a hub of activity and offers courses. workshops, talks and educational film nights..we just love to learn! We also have a FREEEE community Library that YOUR community have been contributing a bounty of books to with a 'plot to plate' theme such as allotment growing, preserving food, sustainable living and understanding food labels so you can come and borrow a book, keep and replace it or simply peruse our library in store...whilst chomping on a locally grown organic carrot if you wish!
Our profits are ploughed back into the community through a food growing grant scheme yay!
if you want to know more about food growing, food waste, cooking, local producers and would like to connect with other like minded people please pop by and see us.
Our name: Foodshed is the term for the regional flow of food from farm to fork et voilà !

When I first saw Foodshed I noticed how it looks so inviting and friendly and when I walked I got a real homely feeling which made me feel comfortable and I wanted to stay and look at all the treasures.
